(Franklin County, MA) Recently coyotes have become more visible to the public, especially after events like last year’s drought, which drew them out in search of food sources.

MassWildlife issued a list of tips for members of the public who may encounter coyotes during the current mating season, which runs from January to March. During this time, coyote populations will increase their activity.

The suggestions include hazing the animals with loud noises and chasing them from your yard. They also suggest removing any outdoor food sources and to not intentionally feed them.

While it may seem that the population has increased over recent years, the Massachusetts’ coyote population has stabilized. Coyotes can be found in large numbers across the state in urban, suburban, and rural communities.
