TO LEAD. DOZENS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WERE HONORED TONIGHT BY THE KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI POLICE DEPARTMENT. TONIGHT’S BRIAN JOHNSON REPORTS ON HOW THEY SAVE LIVES AND PREVENT CRIME. IT’S A NIGHT OF RECOGNITION FOR OFFICERS WHO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND NORMAL EXPECTATIONS. THEIR DEDICATION TO THE CITY, WHICH YOU’RE ABOUT TO LEARN, HAS MADE KANSAS CITY SAFER, STRONGER AND MORE HOPEFUL. PEOPLE LIKE OFFICER STEVEN EMMONS, WHO GAVE CPR AND SAVED A MAN’S LIFE. OFFICER EMMONS ACTED QUICKLY AND DECISIVELY, RELYING ON HIS TRAINING AT A CRUCIAL TIME. THIS TEAM OF OFFICERS RECOVERED 59 CARS AND STOLEN PROPERTY. WORTH $330,000. THERE WAS LIKELY AN IMMEDIATE REDUCTION IN THE NUMBER OF CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFTS IN SOUTH KANSAS CITY. A NEGOTIATOR AND HER K-9, WHO ENDED THE STANDOFF PEACEFULLY. OFFICER MARK CATRON, WHO PULLED A CITY WORKER FROM A BURNING TRASH TRUCK. HIS EFFORTS CAME AT CONSIDERABLE PERSONAL RISK. SERGEANT GORE, WHO SAVED THE LIFE OF A WOMAN WHO WAS SUICIDE WHILE USING BEANBAG BULLETS TO PREVENT A TRAGEDY. SERGEANT GORE’S ACTIONS ALLOWED EMS TO TREAT HER AND TAKE HER TO THE HOSPITAL. WE’RE TRAINED VERY WELL IN DE-ESCALATION, AND IT’S SOMETHING THAT’S VERY IMPORTANT AS AN ORGANIZATION FOR US TO DO AS OFFICERS. OFFICER NATHAN HURLEY RESCUED THREE CHILDREN FROM AN ARMED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SITUATION. THE PLANNING AND THE COOPERATION BETWEEN US AND THE HOSTAGE NEGOTIATOR AND THE SUPERVISORS AND COMMANDS STAFF ALL TOGETHER WERE ABLE TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. Dozens of Kansas City police officers were honored by the department on Tuesday. It was a night of recognition for officers who go above and beyond the duty of normal expectations. "Their dedication to the city, which you are about to learn, has made Kansas City safer, stronger, and more hopeful,” said Police Chief Stacey Graves. Among those honored were officer Steven Emmons, whose fast thinking and CPR saved the life of Amanis who overdosed on drugs. A team of officers came together and recover 59 stolen cars, guns, illegal narcotics and property worth $330,000."There was likely an immediate reduction in the number of catalytic converter thefts in South Kansas City,” Graves said. Officer Marc Catron pulled a worker from a burning trash truck. In all, 31 first-responders were recognized for dedication and service.
