A lopsided game took a positive turn last week and produced a viral highlight reel when Thomas Edison Energy Charter’s Evan Gilpin brought the crowd to life at Montgomery High School with a couple of 3-pointers. Senior Andrew Lavali added a memorable dunk and an unforgettable celebration.
As seen in a recording of the live stream by Montgomery High School’s Keith Glock, the junior connected on three shots from beyond the arc in a 90-35 loss to Montgomery and when he was heating up late from 3-point range, the Montgomery student section erupted after each shot. First, he hit a step-back shot that caught everyone’s attention. Gilpin followed it up on the next possession and tested his range, hitting a shot from well beyond the 3-point line.
Then, Montgomery cleared out in the final minutes and allowed Lavali an open lane to throw it down. The senior celebrated after the monstrous dunk by doing a cartwheel and landing in a split.
The final minutes of the game caught traction on social media and a 74-second video breakdown has picked more than 700,000 views on TikTok.
