On Tuesday evening, the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Oklahoma City Thunder in California.

LeBron James came into the night needing 36 points to pass Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (who scored 38,387 points) on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

The four-time NBA Champion finished the game with 38 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Therefore, James has now scored more points than anyone in NBA history.

Many people thought the record could never be broken, which makes the milestone arguably the most significant individual accomplishment ever seen in the sport.

James was trending all over Twitter, and many people were congratulating him.

One person who sent a tweet to James was Super Bowl Champion Patrick Mahomes.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback will play in his third Super Bowl this weekend (against the Philadelphia Eagles).

Mahomes tweeted: "Congrats!!! @KingJames legendary stuff!!"

His post has 20,000 likes in less than one hour (and over 330,000 impressions).

The Lakers lost the game 133-130, but the final result was the last thing on people's minds.

James will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer and is considered by many to be the greatest player of all time.

In addition to the Lakers, he has also played for the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers (twice).

The only time James has ever averaged less than 25.0 points per contest in a season was his rookie year when he averaged 20.9 points.

On Thursday evening, the Lakers will play their next game when they host the Milwaukee Bucks
