LeBron James Breaks All-Time Scoring Record Versus OKC Thunder

Scoring 36 points in 26 minutes versus the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night, four-time champion LeBron James broke the NBA’s all-time scoring record.

Previously held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for around 38 years, James broke a record previously thought of as unbreakable.

With each make, the Lakers home crowd roared louder and louder as The King closed in on the record. He needed just three quarters to get it done, finishing 12-for-18 in 26 minutes prior to getting to the record.

With 10.9 on the clock in the third quarter, James reared up a step-back jumper to grab the record. Abdul-Jabbar himself, former Heat and Cavaliers teammate Dwyane Wade and a host of other celebrities were there to watch James high-octane performance. He was videoed practicing Abdul-Jabbar's signature shot, the sky hook, in pre-game, but opted for the step-back.

James scored eight first quarter points, 12 second quarter points, 12 third quarter points and six in the fourth to nab first place on the scoring list.

It’s been an illustrious 20-year career for James, who holds four championships and subsequent Finals MVP Awards, five regular season MVP awards, and a bevy of other accolades spanning back to 2003.

Deemed ‘The Chosen One’ even before entering the NBA, it’s hard to say James hasn’t lived up to and exceeded all hype.

Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a productive night of his own to that point, pouring on 27 points on 8-for-13 shooting before James broke the record.

It was a back-and-forth game in the first half before Oklahoma City pulled away just before halftime and maintained their lead 

The score stood at 104-99 when James broke the scoring record.
