Man wanted on robbery charges in Cuyahoga County accused of murder in Canton

CANTON, Ohio — A man who is wanted on multiple charges in Cuyahoga County is now facing a murder charge after he was arrested Monday and accused of the shooting death of a 52-year-old Alliance man.

Canton police say Jamarri Harper, 22, tried to run from police, jumping from a second-floor window of a home moments after officers and a SWAT unit arrived to make the arrest. Officers were able to chase Harper down and take him into custody, police say.

Harper is accused of fatally shooting Gary Marx, who was found near the entrance of a residence at about 5 a.m. Monday with an apparent gunshot wound to his neck, police say. He was taken by ambulance to Aultman Hospital but died of his wounds.

Police did not release details about a possible motive for the shooting.

Harper has been charged with murder, felonious assault, aggravated robbery, having weapons under disability, and receiving stolen property in connection with the shooting of Marx. Police say Harper is wanted on warrants out of Cuyahoga County for aggravated robbery, two counts of robbery, two counts of abduction, grand theft auto, aggravated theft, and failure to comply with law enforcement. All of the charges include firearms specifications, police say.
