BALTIMORE — Skeletal human remains were found Monday afternoon in Owings Mills, Baltimore County police said.

Detectives from Baltimore County Police responded to the 11000 block of Owings Mills Boulevard area after human remains were found in a nearby brush area around 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 6, police said.

The remains have been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to be identified and determine the cause of death.

Homicide detectives and a missing persons unit is now leading the investigation, officials said.

"At this time, we are not going to say it's tied to a homicide, but were trying to ascertain what took place and how this individual ended up there," Baltimore County Polices spokesman Det. Trae Corbin said.

The grisly discovery is putting people who work in the area on edge.

"It's a little bit scary considering it's right where I work," Eugene Tsitlik said.

Tsitlik works at the shopping center right by the crime scene.

The remains were discovered along the road he travels on to get to work, he said.

"We bike down and up this road every single day," Tsitlik said. "There's always customers riding up and down. So, it's really a surprise. I never would've expected it."

As the detectives continue to look into the situation, they're encouraging anyone with information relevant to the case to call 410-307-2020 or contact Metro Crime Stoppers on 1-866-7LOCKUP.
