The Missoula County Public Schools Board of Trustees did not select a new school superintendent during Tuesday night's meeting.
The decision was unanimous, with trustees agreeing to keep the search open.
Officials said they want someone who is familiar with running a school district the size of Missoula’s.
They noted the success the former candidates brought to the table.
"I just want to thank you for your thoughtful consideration. When surveyed, seeing the resumes and doing independent research of the candidates of the position, the majority of our members felt the same exact way this team feels. I appreciate you recognizing those thought and all the thoughts of all the stakeholders," said Doug Rosberg, vice president of the Missoula Education Association.
The board will resume its search for a superintendent for the next 10 days.
