Perry Public Library Director Mary Murphy took a few minutes at Monday night’s meeting of the Perry City Council to present two of the library’s most recent valuable accessions when she introduced the new adult services librarian, Mindy May Farmer, and youth services librarian, Laura Pieper.

Farmer is a native of Everett, Washington, living in Perry. She studied English literature at Southern New Hampshire University near Manchester, New Hampshire. Farmer worked most recently as an adjunct instructor in English at the DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy.

Pieper is a native of Hopewell, New Jersey, living in Perry. She studied English and creative writing at Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia. Pieper worked as a reporter at the Perry Chief from 2000 to 2005 and as managing editor from 2011 to 2012.

Murphy will herself retire in November from the directorship position she has held since September 2010, when she came to the Perry Public Library from the De Soto Public Library. The library’s board of directors will begin a search for Murphy’s replacement this month.
