Abbott Elementary has added Big Mouth star Ayo Edebiri to the cast of season 2 in a recurring role.

With the new school year already underway, Edebiri's character is set to be introduced in a FaceTime call during a special Valentine's Day episode.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Edebiri, who voices Missy on Netflix's animated comedy Big Mouth, will play Ayesha. She's the younger sister of Quinta Brunson's Janine, who's mentioned Ayesha a few times throughout Abbott Elementary thus far.

Abbott Elementary fans will note that the sisters are said to have a strained relationship, despite having never been seen on screen together. Additionally, viewers understand that Ayesha and Janine have a troubled relationship with their mother, which Janine bears the brunt of.

During a recent episode of the sitcom, Janine called Ayesha and told her that she wants her to visit her in Philadelphia. It looks like Ayesha will be obliging very soon.

In a hilarious preview clip shared by EW, Janine FaceTimes Ayesha to wish her a happy birthday. She ends up turning everything Ayesha says into a bigger problem as a perplexed Jacob watches on.

This has led fans to believe Janine may have been exaggerating the issues between her and Ayesha.

While Edebiri's Ayesha appears only briefly over FaceTime, she's set to return later in the season with a bigger storyline.

Meanwhile, Edebiri — who's also received critical acclaim for her role as Sydney Adamu on FX's The Bear — recently joined the cast of the upcoming Marvel movie Thunderbolts.

Details on her role haven't yet been revealed, but Edebiri joins a stellar cast that includes David Harbour, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Harrison Ford.

Abbott Elementary airs on ABC in the US, and is available on Disney+ in the UK.
