Officials say Route 9 in Amherst is back open after a fiery crash that closed a portion of the Airline Road for nearly 12 hours. The Hancock County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at around 7:20 Friday morning on Route 9, also known as the Airline Road, in Amherst. Seraphin Puccetti of Baltimore Maryland was driving a 2023 Western Star tractor and trailer east when the rig went off the right side of the roadway. It traveled down an embankment and hit several trees before coming to rest on its side. The truck caught fire, destroying it and all six of the brand new cars that it was carrying. Puccetti was not hurt in the crash. What caused the driver to go off the road remains under investigation.

A crash involving three or more vehicles is backing up traffic on Route 15 during the lunch hour. Bucksport Police confirmed for us that the crash is near the Orrington/Bucksport town line on Route 15, also known as River Road. Traffic is already backed up so drivers are advised to avoid the area until the crash site is cleared.
