A man was arrested for impersonating a police officer in the Mt. Hood area, and deputies are asking for more tips in the case.
Timothy Jacob Benz, 41, of Rhododendron, is facing several charges including impersonating a police officer and felon in possession of a firearm.
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Benz was arrested on Saturday after being linked to several reports of someone driving around impersonating a police officer.
“Investigators learned Benz was spotted ‘patrolling’ the Mt. Hood Meadows parking lot in a silver Dodge Charger and engaging in other unusual behavior,” the sheriff’s office said.
He was wearing black body armor and claimed to be with Oregon State Police. He was eventually contacted by Mt. Hood Meadows security.

They say he has two registered vehicles, both with aftermarket emergency lights:
- A silver four-door 2019 Dodge Charger, license plate 849NVB, outfitted with a spotlight, aftermarket emergency lights, and black badge decal near the driver's-side door
- A gold 2006 Toyota Sequoia sport utility vehicle, license plate KK7TEX, outfitted with a rooftop light bar
Investigators ask anyone who was contacted by Benz or saw him impersonating police to contact the sheriff’s office at 503-655-8211.

Benz was arrested back in 2011 after state troopers say he drove recklessly through traffic in a vehicle with a “full-roof light bar, strobe lighting, and siren” following the Hillsboro International Airshow. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving for the incident.
