CLEVELAND, Ohio – Adam Morris of Barberton was voted the best freshman boys wrestler in Northeast Ohio this week, collecting 28.4% of the votes cast in our fan vote.
Morris was a Suburban League placer and has a 19-16 record this season. Padua’s David Bania and St. Vincent-St. Mary’s Ryan Taylor rounded out the top three vote getters.
Last week cleveland.com ran a four-part series to identify the best boys wrestlers in our seven-county coverage area (Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Summit). And we asked you, the fans, to vote for the best of the best.
These were the candidates:
David Bania, Padua, 126: Has a 22-6 record this season and placed at the Catholic Invitational.
Blake Bartos, Buckeye, 106: Has a 29-2 record this season with a tournament championship at West Holmes and a third place finish at the Maumee Bay Classic.
Ian Bee, Tallmadge, 144: Has a 28-9 record this season and placed in the Suburban League and Joshua Hephner Memorial.
Antonius Bertone, Perry, 175: Finished third in the Chagrin Valley Conference and has a 22-12 record this season.
Talen Blogna, St. Ignatius, 132: Has a 16-16 record this season and his 14 pins are the third most in the program so far this season.
Karson Brown, St. Edward,113: Has a 27-4 record and has earned bonus points in 12 of his wins.
Craig Campbell, Green, 175: Won a title at Green’s own Bulldog Brawl and has a 24-7 record this season.
Blake Cancel, Elyria,120: Had an 11-8 record after the Maumee Bay Classic.
Rocco Czarnecki, CVCA, 113: A placer at the Wadsworth Grizzly invite and a big part of CVCA’s future.
Brian Denamen, West Geauga, 144: Has a 27-7 record this season and won the Chagrin Valley Conference.
Eian Englehart, Avon, 190: Has a 16-3 record as an underclassman in one of the state’s deepest weight classes.
Blake Frantz, Wadsworth, 106: Finished fourth in the Suburban League and has a 22-14 record this season.
E.J. German, Brecksville, 285: Finished third in the Suburban League and has an 18-7 record this season.
Nate Grieger, Avon Lake, 106: Holds a 16-14 record this year for the Eagles.
Rylan Hurley, St. Vincent-St. Mary, 144: Had a 13-6 record at the end of the Catholic Invitational Tournament where he was a runner-up.
Jace Jett, Brecksville, 126: Suburban League champion in his first year with a 21-9 record so far this season.
Zander Joltin, West Geauga, 113: Won the Chagrin Valley Conference and has a 22-3 record this year.
John Jones, Benedictine, 120: Has an 11-7 record this season and was a Catholic Invitational placer.
Caden Kaleal, West Geauga, 120: The Chagrin Valley Conference runner-up with a 26-6 record this season.
Michael Kennedy, Aurora, 126: Has a 17-10 record this season and placed at the Suburban League tournament
Jacob Kiehl, St. Edward, 126: Has a 21-3 record this season, placed at the Catholic Invitational Tournament and was the runner-up of the Cobos Classic and Harding Classic.
Marcus McMahon, Midview, 126: Is 18-13 this season.
Kolten Mellon, Wadsworth, 113: Finished third in the Suburban League and has an 18-14 record this season.
Brayden Miles, Brunswick, 126: Has a 24-14 record this season and has placed at three different tournaments this season.
Logan Miles, Tallmadge, 132: Has a 6-9 record and placed at the Suburban League tournament.
Adam Morris, Barberton, 126: A Suburban League placer with a 19-15 record this season.

Tyler Rowles, North Royalton, 150: Has a 19-14 record with the Golden Bears this season.
Rylan Seacrist, Brecksville, 106: Has a 26-5 record this season and won Brecksville’s Holiday tournament.
Ryan Taylor, St. Vincent-St. Mary, 157: Is 11-13 on the year and each of his 11 wins this season are by pin.
Nicholas Turba, Aurora, 106: Finished fifth at the Suburban League tournament and has a 27-7 record this year.
