    UVA's Kate Douglass and Noah Nichols Sweep ACC Swimming Weekly Awards

    Kate Douglass was named the ACC Women's Swimmer of the Week and Noah Nichols was named the ACC Co-Men's Swimmer of the Week

    A pair of Virginia swimming & diving athletes swept the ACC Swimming weekly awards as Kate Douglass was named the ACC Women's Swimmer of the Week and Noah Nichols was named the ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week after both Cavaliers shattered records this weekend at the Cavalier Invite. 

    In what was likely her final collegiate event at the UVA Aquatic & Fitness Center, Kate Douglass put her name on the wall one final time with another astonishing record. Douglass swam the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:01.43, breaking her own American record in the event for the second time. Back in the 2022 NCAA Championships, Douglass first broke the record as she won the title with a 2:02.19 swim. Douglass then became the first American woman to swim the event in under 2:02, turning in a 2:01.87 in the Tennessee Invite back in November. 

    On Saturday, Douglass chopped another four tenths of a second off that record with her blistering 2:01.43 performance in a timed trial at the Cavalier Invite on Saturday. The swimming world reacted accordingly. 

    Douglass also casually broke another UVA pool record over the weekend, swimming the 100-yard backstroke in 50.47 seconds. Needless to say, Douglass earned the ACC Women's Swimmer of the Week honor with room to spare. 

    On the men's side, Noah Nichols earned the ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week award by breaking a 21-year-old record pool record in the only event he swam during the weekend. Nichols swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 51.44 seconds, breaking the legendary Ed Moses' pool record which had stood for over two decades. Nichols' time was just .33 seconds off of the Virginia school record and is the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA this season. 

    Next week, Kate Douglass and Noah Nichols will lead the Cavaliers in the ACC Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro from February 14th through 18th.
