The Port of Edmonds Commission has unanimously selected incumbent Commissioner Angela Harris as the Port of Edmonds’ next executive director. Harris will replace incumbent Bob McChesney, who is retiring at the end of May after 40 years as a public ports manager, culminating in 14 years serving as the port’s executive director.

Edmonds scenic: Haines Wharf sunset

The Edmonds High School Class of 1973 will hold its 50-year reunion on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Edmonds Yacht Club, 326 Admiral Way, Suite 100, Edmonds, from 4-9 p.m. The cost is $95 per person if paid by July 1 and $100 after that. No admittance is allowed without prior payment. There will be a no-host bar.

The organization works year round in South Snohomish County to support victims of traumatic events, such as home fires and unexpected deaths, working alongside first responders when crises occur. A few of the services they provide include taking the burden of delivering sensitive death notifications, connecting people with grief counseling services or simply providing a warm and safe respite.

High school sports roundup for March 29, 2023

I spoke briefly this week with artist d’Elaine Johnson, whose exhibit, World Waters, opens next Monday (interview to come). Johnson is in her 90s and she spoke so joyfully of her craft. Also this week, I’ve been helping prepare young artists for the Sherwood Elementary talent show. One of the singers said singing “makes me feel taller.” It struck me, speaking with Johnson, the importance of a lifelong commitment to art and creativity. Whether the artist is 9 or 90, there is an infectious beauty in the creative process.

The Mountlake Terrace High School’s Jazz Ensemble 1 took home top honors last Saturday at the Newport Jazz Festival at Newport High School in Bellevue. Jazz Ensemble 1 won the 3A/4A Division and also won the festival’s Sweepstakes Award, recognized as the best jazz ensemble at the festival. Jazz 1 competed on Saturday evening in the finals along with Bellevue High School, Interlake High School and Shorewood High School. Also finishing the festival strong was Mountlake Terrace High School High School Jazz Ensemble 2, which was a runner-up in Saturday evening’s finals.
