Hello, gorgeous! Barbra Streisand will share the memories—misty watercolor memories—of her life in a long-anticipated memoir coming this fall.
Viking will publish the legendary singer, actor, and director’s My Name Is Barbra, a book that’s been in the works for years, the Penguin Random House imprint announced in a news release.
Streisand is one of the world’s most admired entertainers. She began her career as a nightclub singer in the early 1960s and made her Broadway debut in 1962 with I Can Get It for You Wholesale, which earned her a Tony nomination. In 1963, she released The Barbra Streisand Album, which won the Grammy award for best album.
She became one of the world’s biggest superstars in the years following, scoring several hit singles and 46 Grammy nominations, acting in films such as Funny Girl, Yentl, and Nuts, and directing movies including The Prince of Tides and The Mirror Has Two Faces.
Her memoir has been a long time in the making. In a 2021 appearance on the Tonight Show, Streisand told host Jimmy Fallon that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis had approached her in 1984 about editing her memoir. She told Fallon that she was close to finishing the book and had written 824 pages.
The book’s Amazon page indicates that she wasn’t exaggerating: It’s listed as spanning 1,040 pages.
“No entertainer’s memoir has been more anticipated than Barbra Streisand’s, and this engrossing and delightful book will be eagerly welcomed by her millions of fans,” Viking says of the memoir.
My Name Is Barbra is slated for publication on Nov. 7.
