Police across Michigan are investigating reports of school threats, including one at Benton Harbor High School.
There were about a dozen threats.
All ended up being false.
Michigan State Police are calling this a swatting incident, a harassment technique used to dispatch police to an innocent target.
"It's disruptive. It causes fear with both and staff and students," said Michael Pascoe, Asst. Superintendent, Portage Public Schools
These incidents are all being handled by local, state, and federal law enforcement.
"I think today was a perfect example of how quickly we responded, how quickly we ascertained it was false," said Jeff VanderWiere, Portage Public Safety Department.
Police are trying to determine if the hoaxes are all related.
Those convicted of making false reports of a school threat could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
