Local Church Organization to Hold Mental Health Summit
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A local church organization is looking to tackle the stigma of mental health care in the African American community.
First Baptist Cares, a part of the First Baptist Church in downtown Chattanooga, is hosting a Mental Health Summit next weekend on February 18.
The summit will be held at Orchard Knob Baptist Church.
The goal of this summit is to launch a mental health initiative that will target the lack of mental health care available in our African American communities.
This is an expansion of their mental health services thanks to $250,000 from the American Rescue Plan given to the organization by the city of Chattanooga.
Lead pastor of First Baptist Church Dr. William Ladd said, “When the ARP money became available from the city, we thought it was just a tremendous opportunity to expand it further in the city. We’re thankful to be a part of helping those who are having challenges and crises to be able to give them resources.”
The city along with mental health professionals will be present at the summit to provide services.
It is a free event to attend on February 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
