Police say the wanted man who was arrested after he ran from a traffic stop in Northeast Portland on Monday evening had body armor, guns and ammo, and someone else’s work ID and driver’s license inside his car.
Levi Jon Lapage, 32, had an open felony warrant from the Oregon State Parole Board for identity theft. He now faces several more charges, including first-degree burglary and attempting to elude, after Monday’s incident.
Portland Police say it started shortly before 6 p.m. when officers tried to pull over someone driving a car with no license plates near Southeast 92nd and Stark Street.
The driver sped off, and police tracked the vehicle with the Portland Police Air Support Unit as it went through East Portland. Officers eventually used spike strips on the driver’s tires near the Glisan Street onramp to I-205.
The suspect, later identified as Lapage, exited the freeway and bailed out of the car near Northeast 122nd and Siskiyou Street. He then went into a home and hid in the attic of a garage.
The bureau’s Special Emergency Reaction Team found him hiding in the attic, and took him into custody without anyone being injured.
