One dead in US-40 crash north of Heber City

UPDATE: 2/8/23 11:20 AM

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) – New details have been released by the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) on the four-vehicle crash just north of Heber City that left one person deceased Tuesday.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, a white Ford F-150 was heading eastbound on US-40 at the intersection of SR-32/River Road, milepost 13.

The traffic light was reportedly red at the time, and according to witnesses at the scene, the driver of the F-150 “appeared to have lost consciousness” before crashing head-on into a stopped Dodge Ram pickup waiting at the light in the westbound lanes.

As a result, the Dodge Ram was reportedly pushed into a black BMW that was also stopped at the light, which was then pushed into another truck waiting at the light.

DPS states the 68-year-old man driving the Ford F-150 was pronounced dead shortly after the collision.

“A medical episode is being investigated as a possible contributor to the crash,” DPS states.

US-40 was reportedly closed in both directions for around 30-45 minutes.

No further information is available at this time.
