St. Peter’s Prep, No. 4 in the. NJ.com Top 20, will seek its first Hudson County Tournament title since 2020 as the No. 1 seed, it was announced Tuesday morning.
The Marauders (19-3) came in ahead of reigning champion Hudson Catholic (11-9), which lost a 57-56 game to St. Peter’s Jan. 19, and also suffered a surprising 51-43 setback to Bayonne Jan. 24. Bayonne (15-7) is seeded No. 3 and Union City (10-10) No. 4.
Those four teams have earned byes until the Feb. 13 quarterfinal round, while No. 5 Snyder (12-9), No. 6 North Bergen (13-9, No. 7 Memorial (10-11) and No. 8 Hoboken (15-7) all have byes until the Feb. 11 second round. The semifinals are Feb. 15 at High Tech in Secaucus, and the championship game is set for 4 p.m. on Feb. 18 at High Tech.

There will be one play-in game contested between 17th-seeded University Charter and 16th-seeded BelovED Charter on Wednesday, and then four first-round games on Thursday at the courts of the higher seed. Ninth-seeded Weehawken is home against the BelovED-University winner, No. 13 Lincoln is at No. 12 Dickinson, No. 14 Ferris is at No. 11 Kearny, and No. 15 Harrison travels to No. 10 McNair.
Senior forward Jackson Tindall struck for 24 points and junior guard Nico Pena had 17 to help St. Peter’s rally past Hudson Catholic in that Jan. 19 meeting at Hudson Catholic. The Hawks topped St. Peter’s, 60-55, for last year’s championship and have been crowned eight times in the last 10 tournaments. There was no HCT in 2021 because of the pandemic-shortened season.
