Dexter: New Blood spoilers follow.

There may not be a second season of Dexter: New Blood, but that doesn't mean Paramount+ has shut the door on the Miami killer.

While Paramount+ and Showtime have put an end to the adventures of Dexter's son Harrison, two prequels are in development – including one centred on one of the show's most iconic villains.

The first prequel – as previously reported – is a series on Young Dexter, which "will be set in Dexter's hometown of Miami, and will touch on stories of real-life serial killers of the time period".

The second is focused on the Trinity Killer (via Wall Street Journal). Also known as Arthur Mitchell, the memorable villain was played by John Lithgow in the fourth season of the original show.

Lithgow briefly reprised the role in Dexter: New Blood in flashbacks.

Last year, New Blood shocked fans with its season finale, with a dramatic series of events culminating in Harrison killing his father Dexter.

At the time, showrunner Clyde Phillips addressed a second season of the revival series, saying Harrison's future was ultimately down to Showtime.

"If they were to call me and say, 'We want to do [a show focused on] Harrison. We want you to figure it out', I'm pretty busy, but I would drop everything I'm doing and jump right into it," he told TVLine in January 2022.

While a sequel doesn't seem to be a possibility at present, fans can rest easy knowing more Dexter stories are being planned.

Dexter: New Blood aired on Showtime in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK. All episodes of Dexter are also available on NOW.
