Klopp’s team have endured a torrid run of results since the turn of the year which has left him making changes to try and change their fortunes.

Stefan Bajcetic and Naby Keita have been the chosen partners for Thiago Alcantara over recent matches meaning Henderson and teammate Fabinho have been relegated to the substitutes bench.

Speaking on talkSPORT (via Liverpool Echo ), former England international Murphy explained that he thinks Klopp is making a mistake by leaving his captain out.

“I’m still surprised that every time I see a Liverpool team sheet, I don’t see them train, but I don’t care how he is training, Henderson plays every game for me, still.

“He is the heartbeat of the midfield, he’s still got the legs to do it, and for some reason, he [Klopp] keeps leaving him out.

“I know Fabinho has had a tough time, but when you've got players who have done two or three years of brilliant seasons for you, being consistent, allow them to go through their bad spell and put them back in.”

LFCTR Verdict

Klopp’s midfield has looked far more compact and resolute over recent matches but have been let down by defensive mistakes and a lack of cutting edge in attack.

It will be interesting to see however how long Klopp persists without his captain with the team in dire need of inspiration.
