It’s the first TGR Design course in the Mountain West. The new championship 18-hole course will be the first of a 36-hole facility to be built at the Marcella Club. At 8,000 yards in length, it’s said to become the longest and highest-elevation golf course in the state.
The Marcella Club is a partnership between Marcella Mountain and Marcella at Jordanelle Ridge. Marcella Mountain, which is part of the new Mayflower Resort near the Jordanelle in Wasatch County, will include ski-in, ski-out homes. The golf courses will be built on the east side of U.S. 40 in a planned development called Marcella at Jordanelle Ridge.
Construction on the first 18 holes will begin later this year. Once open, the courses will only be open to members. Thomas Wright, CEO and principal broker of Summit Sotheby’s, said the development will only offer 500 memberships.
“When you have Olson Kundig designing the lodge and you have Tiger Woods designing the golf course, it’s going to be a high-end clientele, people who want exclusivity and the ability to golf when they want to and ski when they want to," Wright said. "What we’ve seen in some communities is that they’re a little crowded. It’s hard to get a tee time, it’s hard to get out and so exclusivity in this luxury golf development was really important.”
Tiger Woods said in a statement he’s thrilled with the location of the new course, calling it one of the most dramatic he’s ever seen.
“It has ridgelines with some of the most stunning views in the world, valleys with amazing contours and topography and groves of trees that allow me to use creativity to bring to life a golf experience that’s something special," Woods said.
Easton Folster, executive director of the Utah Golf Association, said he’s excited to have Tiger Woods’ name associated with golf in Utah.
“Obviously, when you attach Tiger Woods’ name to anything, it's going to be first class,” Folster said. “While I'm not necessarily overly familiar with the architecture side of the golf industry, being able to have, you know, Tiger Woods involved with the project in Park City and in Utah, it's going to be massive. It's going to be great for the industry, it's going to be great for golf and the golfing community.”
Folster said while the Utah Golf Association isn’t involved in the project right now, that will change once the course is built.
“Eventually the golf course will need to be rated and be given a proper course rating, that is something that we'll provide and look forward to providing,” Folster said. “And then we will also maintain all of the handicaps of all the members that will eventually be there. So our involvement, it has not been up front, but they will be one of our member clubs and we're excited to have them.”
To date, 42 of the 68 lots that have been plotted at Marcella Mountain have been sold. Lots at Marcella at Jordanelle Ridge, where the golf courses will be, likely won’t be available for another two years.
Marcella at Jordanelle Ridge is expected to open for play by the 2025 season.
