INDIANAPOLIS — A 29-year-old is accused of murder in connection to a double shooting from November that left a man dead and a woman injured.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Tony Miller Jr. was arrested four days after the November double shooting for possession of a handgun by a felon.
Police originally reported being called to the 9000 block of E. 38th Place on Nov. 18, 2022, on report of a person shot. Police arrived and located both a man and a woman inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds.
30-year-old William Wilson IV died from his injuries. His girlfriend survived being shot in the arm and immediately identified her ex-boyfriend as the killer.
“When I ran out the door she said my son shot her, but I don’t know if he was the one that did it,” said the suspect’s mother Tracy Miller. “That’s what she said, but I don’t know if he really did it.”
Tracy Miller’s son is now charged with murder and attempted murder. Tracy said she didn’t know he had been charged with murder until we told her.
“I don’t got nothing else to say because I don’t think he did it,” she said. “I don’t know what to think.”
The surviving victim said the shooting took place when she arrived at the parking lot to pick up the young daughter she shared with the suspect.
That woman, who spoke anonymously, said the suspect had repeatedly fired shots at her home long before he shot into her car window, killing her boyfriend.
“Contact an advocate so you can form a plan,” said Danyette Smith with Indy Champions.
Danyette encourages people who’ve separated but who share children to take steps to prevent violence from flaring during child exchanges.
“The most important thing is to form a safety plan,” said Smith. “A part of that safety plan is meeting at another location where neither one of you are interacting with each other.”
The affidavit claims the suspect told police he was in Terre Haute the day of the murder, but prosecutors believe cell phone records place him near the scene of the homicide.
A violation notice filed by Community Corrections shows the suspect removed his GPS ankle monitor, stemming from a prior weapons conviction, more than a month before the killing to try and prevent his location from being tracked.
While IMPD initially held Miller on a gun charge, investigators gathered further evidence to link him to the shooting. Miller was incarcerated at the Marion County Justice Center when detectives served a warrant to him in January accusing him of murder.
The suspect is being held without bond pending trial.
