Police: Missing woman found dead by railroad worker in Omaha
Police said the death was not suspicious.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) - Council Bluffs Police said a 55-year-old woman reported as an endangered missing person has been found dead.
CBPD said in a social media post Tuesday morning that Janet Lee North had been found dead. Police later confirmed that North’s death did not appear to be suspicious. An Omaha Police report states that she was found by a railroad worker in Omaha near 3rd and Pierce streets, close to the Missouri River.
A BNSF worker told police they saw a woman lying near a pile of railroad ties, just off a dirt road running along the railroad tracks. Omaha Fire medics responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead, the OPD report states.
North, who had health issues that required medical care, had last been seen the Wednesday before in the woods near Harrah’s Casino wearing blue jeans, black boots, and a brown coat at the time. She was described as 5-foot-4 and weighing about 140 pounds.
“CBPD wishes to express our condolences to her family and friends,” the police department said in its social media post.
