Woman declared dead stuns funeral home when she starts breathing

An elderly New York woman who was declared dead shocked funeral home workers Saturday when she began breathing.

The woman, identified as an 82-year-old Long Island native, was first declared dead at about 11:15 a.m. at Port Jefferson’s Waters Edge Rehab and Nursing Center, according to a report.

She was transported to the O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place, where she shocked employees when she started breathing at about 2:09 p.m.

After she was discovered breathing, she was taken to a local hospital, according to the report.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the New York State Attorney’s Office.

This latest incident comes less than two months after workers at an Iowa funeral home discovered a woman who had been declared dead gasping for air inside a body bag.

After she was declared dead, the elderly woman was sent to the Ankeny Funeral Home & Crematory, where she stunned workers after she began gasping for air inside the body bag.
