The Simpson College athletics department had a host of teams competing over the weekend.

The Storm men’s wrestling squad dominated Buena Vista 39-9, picking up their second American Rivers Conference dual victory, and will have a chance to pick up their third as they face off against Central and Dubuque over the next two weeks.

It was a road trip to Oklahoma for the men’s gymnastics squad, where they were narrowly defeated by the Sooners of the University of Oklahoma 407.650 to 352.550. The Storm set new season-highs on pommel horse (55.900) and high bar (55.250), and the entire floor lineup set season-bests as the team earned a score of 61.500 in the first rotation of the night.

The Storm women’s gymnastics team fell to both Northern Illinois and Kent State with a score of 185.175 at a tri-meet with Division I foes. The Storm had their highest score of the season on floor with a 48.025, and finished the day with a 47.050 on vault, a 43.475 on bars, a 46.625 on beam and a 48.025 on floor.

Both men’s and women’s swimming teams traveled to Coe College, the men winning 56-52 and the women falling 163-44. Jay Ceperley was the only Storm swimmer to set a new personal-best, taking second place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.68. Ceperley also took second in the 100 yard butterfly. Kate Minette was once again a leading performer for the women, winning the 50 yard freestyle and taking second in the 100 yard free.
