Man arrested after allegedly shooting at officers

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - 7:15 A.M. Update: The Sparks Police Department says it first responded to a domestic disturbance call on Sparks Boulevard around 10:40 Monday night. The victim said her husband, later identified as 34-year-old Dustin Salaun, had threatened to kill her and was armed. She also said he had already fired a gun.

When officers arrived, they say Salaun went outside, saw them, and quickly retreated back into the apartment. He then allegedly fired several shots in the direction of first responders.

The Sparks SWAT team and hostage negotiators were deployed while Nevada Highway Patrol shut down Sparks Boulevard.

Salaun surrendered peacefully after hours of negotiation. In a search of the apartment, officers found a stolen handgun with multiple magazines and ammunition.

Salaun is now facing multiple charges, including:

  • Obstructing with a deadly weapon
  • Discharge of a firearm inside a structure
  • Discharge of a firearm where persons are endangered
  • Assault with a deadly weapon on a protected person
  • Prohibited person in possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Destruction of property

Original Story: Just before midnight Monday, Sparks Police responded to an incident at the Park Vista Apartments. Shortly after, we started hearing reports of an active shooting situation, and a heavy law enforcement presence arrived on the scene. Responders closed Sparks Blvd. around Prater Way for some time, reopening around 1:20 A.M.

Shortly after 1:00 A.M., a man was arrested in one of the apartment units.
