Kirby Smart‘s Georgia Bulldogs could be looking for a new offensive coordinator in 2023 as Todd Monken’s NFL interest continues to grow. Initially, it was the Buccaneers who interviewed UGA’s OC; now, it’s the Ravens, according to a report from the weekend by Mike Garafolo:

The Bulldogs will have to face attrition of the coaching staff every year, so fans better get used to it. It’s the greatest compliment a program can receive. Alabama and Nick Saban have dealt with assistants being poached for years; now, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are dealing with a similar issue due to their recent success.

Still, as critical as Monken has been to Georgia’s recent success, he’s not the first prominent coordinator plucked from under Smart. Mel Tucker, Sam Pittman, and Dan Lanning have taken Power 5 head coaching gigs in recent years.

Monken should have his choice of landing spots because of the masterful job he did in Athens. He unlocked UGA’s offensive talent and maximized Stetson Bennett‘s skillset.

The Ravens parted ways with Greg Roman this offseason after four successful seasons. It was a mutual decision, and Roman will undoubtedly land on his feet. Monken has experience as an NFL coordinator, spending time with the Buccaneers from 2016 to 2018, coordinating the offense. If he wants, it seems he’ll be able to choose where his next stop is because of all the success he’s had with Georgia.

Bulldogs fans shouldn’t be worried, though. As impactful as Todd Monken has been, Kirby Smart has proven capable of replacing coordinators in the past. Hiring subordinates is often an overlooked facet of being a head coach in college football, and Smart has had several impressive hires over the years. The Dawgs will be just fine if Todd Monken chooses to go to the NFL.
