Montgomery County Council on Aging

Posted

Ten members of the Montgomery County Council on Aging met Jan. 11 at Fusion 54 and via Zoom for their monthly meeting.

December minutes were read and approved, and the treasurer’s report was then presented. One highlight of the treasurer’s report included the disbursements to three 2022 year-end grant recipients in Montgomery County whose organizations provide care services for seniors in our community. Those recipients are Crawfordsville Fire Department’s Paramedicine Program for their newfalls prevention initiative; the Montgomery County Free Clinic for senior dental services; and the Lafayette Honor Flight in support of our local veterans.

The treasurer also reported a record number of members, bringing our total membership to 25. Those members are: Wabash Adult Guardian Services, Total Solutions, Whitlock Place, Majestic Care Skilled Nursing, Ben-Hur Health & Rehabilitation, Bickford of Crawfordsville, Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville, Lafayette Regional Hospital, Franciscan Health, Nellie Thompson, Marie Stocks, Durham Home, Karen Largent, Crawfordsville Parks & Recreation-Senior Services, Community Action Program, Physiocare Hospice, The Lane House, Castleton Health, Dusk to Dawn Bereavement, Crawfordsville Paramedicine Program, Valley Professionals Community Health Center, Glasswater Creek, Guardian Angel Hospice, Proactive Solutions, S.H.I.P., etc.

Committee reports were presented from our 2023 Senior Celebration/Expo planning members and the Education group. We hope to schedule our annual Senior Celebration event at Crawfordsville Park & Rec. sometime in the fall. The monthly education series for 2023, “Know Us Before You Need Us” will be targeted at education for adult children of seniors who are currently supporting and caretaking seniors, or those who are planning for the need for senior support services in the future. Also those seniors who would like information about support services available in our area.

Belinda Johnson, director of senior services at Crawfordsville Park & Recreation, reports that the Sunshine Van service is transporting more and more clients out of the Montgomery County area for medical appointments. This has increased their transportation costs significantly so additional funding sources will be needed.

Kristie Cottrell, executive director of Bickford Memory Care is restarting the Dementia Support Group meetings this year. The first meeting was Jan. 26 at Fusion at 5:30 p.m. Please contact Kristie for details.

The next meeting of the MCCA will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday (second Tuesday of each month) at Fusion 54, fourth floor and via Zoom. Please contact MCCA President Scott McWhorter for information. You can also find the MCCA on our website: www.mcca54.com.
