City officials present their plans for construction of a stormwater pump station at 10 Poplar St, next to McGrath Highway and blending with an ArtFarm park and event-space concept. The pump station, underground stormwater storage tank and associated utility improvements will improve stormwater management for approximately 60 percent of the city, increase preparedness for extreme weather events, decrease flooding and help reduce combined sewer overflows, officials say. Work on the long-planned infrastructure upgrade is expected to begin this spring and continue through 2025. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.

Pandemic provided impetus to preserve a legacy: The Women Computers of Harvard Observatory. The Harvard College Observatory began building its collection of astronomical photographic plates strategically shortly after the invention of dry plate photography in the 19th century. Harvard astronomers’ prolific output of photographs needed to be carefully analyzed, a tedious process of taking measurements and mathematical calculations. Women could be hired at a cheaper rate than men to do this work, and today we know that more than 200 Women Astronomical Computers at the observatory helped advance our modern understanding of the universe.

A week of events in Cambridge and Somerville from community Iftar to Opera ‘Cutlass Crew’. North Cambridge Family Opera’s “The Cutlass Crew” at 1 and 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Peabody School, 70 Rindge Ave., North Cambridge (and repeating next weekend). $12 for adults; $6 for kids. A North American premiere production of the 2017-commissioned light opera with additional music and scenes, telling the story of English aristocrat-turned-pirate Lady Mary Killigrew menacing the high seas in the time of Queen Elizabeth I. The North Cambridge Family Opera has two intergenerational casts who sing their bright, funny labors of love in English with side titles. Masking is requested. More information is here.
