Dodgers: LA Skipper Unsure Who Will Start at Center Field At The Moment

Dave Roberts says our guess is as good as his as to who will start at center field

The Los Angeles Dodgers have some important questions going into Spring Training: "who will start at center field for the Dodgers?”

LA lost their gold glove-winner outfielder Cody Bellinger this winter to the Chicago Cubs, leaving a huge gap for Los Angeles to fill.

During Fan Fest on Saturday at Dodger Stadium, skipper Dave Roberts met with the media and was asked if he had any idea who would start at center field by Opening Day. Roberts said he’s not sure who will play the eight position just yet.

The good thing is that Roberts has plenty of options in that department. He could go with proven veterans like Chris Taylor, Trayce Thomspon or Jayson Heyward, or he can go with one of their prospects in James

Outman, who LA fans got to see last summer when he exploded onto the scene.

Taylor spent most of his time in left field for LA in 2022 while only playing ten games at center. CT3 is no stranger to the outfield; however, he will most likely see the majority of his time in left field and some in the infield as well.

Heyward is probably their more proven outfielder from the bunch. The 33-year-old is a five-time gold glove winner, but his best days may be behind him. The 2016 World Series champion only played in 48 games in 2022, and 26 of those were spent in center with the Cubs. Heyward signed a minor league deal with LA in December.

Thompson may be the best choice from the bunch; he spent 18 regular season games and three postseason games at center field, starting in two of them. He’s 31 years old, and with some team security, he will have a chance to prove he is capable of covering out in center field.

I can see anyone of those starting at center come Opening Day. We’ll get our answer soon enough, with Spring Training approaching.
