Law enforcement sources tell News 12 that police have taken a person into custody they say is connected to the shooting of an off-duty NYPD officer in Brooklyn. Sources say that this person was tracked to a hotel in Rockland County.
NYPD and Clarkstown police officers were in and out of several rooms on the second floor of the Day's Inn in Nanuet, where the person of interest was apparently hiding out.
Detectives were seen searching the back part of the hotel for several hours after tracking the person down. They also towed a car from the scene.
Officials say the officer met up with the suspect in East New York on Saturday night to buy a car from him after the two arranged to do so over Facebook Marketplace.
Police say the suspect shot the officer in the head during what turned out to be an attempted robbery.
The officer, who is from Deer Park on Long Island, remains in critical condition.
Sources say police will be at the hotel overnight to preserve the scene before investigators come up from the city Tuesday morning.
