Sam Coonrod has been claimed by the New York Mets after a recent release from the Philadelphia Phillies.
Relief pitcher Sam Coonrod, who was recently released by the Philadelphia Phillies , has been claimed off waivers by the New York Mets.
Coonrod was designated for assignment when the Phillies signed Josh Harrison to a one-year deal for a reported $2 million.
The 30-year-old Coonrod is 7-5 with five saves, a 5.27 ERA (57 earned runs in 97 1/3 innings) and 95 strikeouts in 105 combined Major League games between the San Francisco Giants (2019-2020) and Phillies (2021-2022).
Coonrod appeared in 12 games for the Phillies last season largely because of a strained right shoulder. He was 2-2 with two saves and a 4.04 ERA (19 earned runs in 42 1/3 innings) in 42 games for the Phillies in ‘21.
