Barber believes he can help Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII

Barber DeJuan Bonds believes he can be a positive force for the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes ahead of the Super Bowl LVII matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

"When we were in the last one, since we were in COVID, they had set up a barber setup for me at the Arrowhead facility, but I caught COVID, so they couldn’t get haircuts," Bonds told Steve Serby of the New York Post. "So Pat went to the Super Bowl busted — no haircut. That’s why we lost. 'Cause he didn’t have a haircut."

Some may remember reading or hearing that the Chiefs' barber tested positive for COVID-19 while Mahomes and up to 20 people associated with the club were waiting for haircuts before the Super Bowl LV clash versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in February 2021. Mahomes was ultimately cleared to face the Buccaneers, but Tampa Bay thrashed Kansas City 31–9.

Bonds plans to arrive Friday at the Chiefs' team hotel to give Mahomes and 21 other Kansas City players haircuts. The barber last took care of Mahomes one day before the Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 29.

"He gets the modified Mahomes Mohawk," Bonds said of the signal-caller's order.

Bonds added that Mahomes may wait until this Saturday for his final pre-Super Bowl haircut because the Most Valuable Player of the title game played in February 2020 "wants to be as fresh as possible" for Sunday's encounter.

"It don’t feel real," Bonds said about Kansas City's run of three Super Bowl appearances in four years. "I mean, I know we got a great guy, but it don’t feel real, man. Three times in four years? It’s crazy!"

Barbers aren't always spot-on with predictions. This past fall, Aaron Judge's barber claimed to have "some inside information" about the All-Star slugger joining the San Francisco Giants in free agency. Judge instead re-signed with the New York Yankees.

Then again, Mahomes and the Chiefs may have picked up some extra good luck thanks to a "Madden NFL 23" simulation that was shared on Monday well before Bonds will make his way to Arizona.
