A Long Island business owner is helping women with cancer obtain affordable wigs – as well as a piece of mind.
Nikeya Burnett says she educates and empowers women through her business, Sereen Studio.
"This space is where they would get all their education on what to expect from when they started their chemo, how the hair is going to fall out, how the scalp is going to change and different kind of wigs," Burnett says.
She says wigs can cost anywhere from $200 to $2,000 and some could be covered by insurance. Burnett, however, says her studio is a one-stop shop and she deals with the insurance companies and finds her customers local financial resources.
She says her career journey took her from being a cosmetologist to a medical biller to working at a cancer center – making her uniquely qualified to help cancer patients through their most stressful moments.
"It really makes a big difference," Burnett says. "It's letting our sisters know we're here, we got you."
She describes her business as "hair with a purpose" and hopes to give women the confidence and wig options they need to get through their cancer journey.
Sereen Studio is located on Main Street in Islip. For more information on Sereen Studio, click here.
