District officials sent a letter to parents about the incident.
In the letter, they explained that they learned about the situation on Friday.
Dear Spartan Parents,
Friday afternoon, the district was made aware of a photo of a student with an unfavorable comment circulating on social media. The photo was taken at the school by a substitute teacher. The district would like to clarify that this is unacceptable behavior for any individual on our campus.
Due to student confidentiality, and for the care, safety, and protection of the family involved, the district did not immediately release a statement.
The district is proceeding with corrective action. When incidents occur involving students or staff, the number one concern continues to be the safety and privacy of the individual(s) involved. Events like this cause much rumor and speculation, and there are many. As a reminder, the district will inform our families directly by email. Responses will not be offered on social media.
