Warriors' Head Coach Steve Kerr Gives Update On Stephen Curry's Leg Injury

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is expected to miss a few weeks with a rare left leg injury.

As if matters could not get worse for the Golden State Warriors with them being 27-26 past the halfway point in the season, they will now have to figure out how to succeed without their leader and two-time MVP Stephen Curry.

Leaving Saturday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks early with a lower left leg injury, the Warriors announced on Sunday that Curry had sustained a suffered partial tears to his superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane, as well as a contusion to his lower leg.

This is a rare injury given the circumstance in which it occurred with Curry’s leg appearing to bang into that of Dallas guard McKinley Wright’s, but definitely devastating news for Golden State, as Curry will likely be out through the All-Star break.

Head coach Steve Kerr talked about Steph’s injury on Sunday and what the latest timeline looks like for his star.

“The main thing is that he is going to be out for a little bit,” Kerr said. “We are going to re-evaluate him in a few days and the good news is that he is going to be back. We don’t exactly know when, but it’s not an injury that is going to keep him out for the season. He’s going to come back this season and hopefully sooner rather than later, but we will know more in a few days and as he continues to heal.”

As far as who will start in place of Stephen Curry, Kerr said that Jordan Poole will once again be evaluated to the team’s starting lineup.

Playing in a total of 38 games this season, Curry has averaged 29.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 42.7 percent from three-point range.

The NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers made has already missed a chunk of time earlier this season with a shoulder injury, a stretch in which the Warriors went 6-5.

In total though, Golden State has gone 7-8 without Curry on the floor and their offense has really struggled at times, as any team’s offense would without a near 30-point performer on a nightly basis.

The good news for the Warriors, as Kerr stated, is that Curry will be back at some point this season and they are hopeful that he will be able to return in the weeks following the All-Star break.

This is a weird injury though and a lot of his rehab will depend on his pain tolerance and how fast his body heals.

Following the training staff and doctors re-evaluating him in a few days, the Warriors will likely give an approximate timeline on when Steph Curry will return to the floor.
