'Clean Corps' deploys $14 million to nonprofits to clean up Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WBFF) —
Baltimore City officials named the organizations that will spend more than $14 million to hire city residents to clean up 16 neighborhoods.

- Bon Secours Baltimore Community Works, Inc. will work with the residents of the Boyd-Booth,Penrose,Fayette Street Outreach, Carrollton Ridge, and Franklin Square neighborhoods.
- Broadway East Community Development Corporation will work with the residents of the Broadway East and East Baltimore-Midway neighborhoods
- Civic Works, Inc. will work with the residents in the Coldstream, Homestead and Montebello (CHM), Darley Park and Four by Four neighborhoods
- Park Heights Renaissance, Inc. will work with the residents of the Arlington and Greenspring neighborhoods
- The Lazarus Rite, Inc. will work with the residents of Harlem Park, Penn-North, Sandtown-Winchester, Upton, and Druid Heights neighborhoods
"The only way that Baltimore will be the best version of itself is if we all come together," said Mayor Brandon Scott.
Those groups will hire and train local residents at a rate of $15 per hour to do the work.
"This is not just about cleaning community," said Department of Public Works Director Jason Mitchell. "This is about picking up communities." He said that he was hoping the program would lead people to careers in DPW and, eventually, buy homes in the neighborhood they worked in.
