Zach Edey Named Big Ten Basketball Co-Player of the Week, Ties Purdue Single-Season Record

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue junior center Zach Edey has been named the Big Ten men's basketball Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
It marks the sixth time he's earned the weekly league honor, tying Caleb Swanigan for the most in a single season in program history. Edey shares the award with Indiana's Trayce Jackson-Davis for the second straight week.
Edey registered 25.5 points on 78.6% shooting efficiency, 15.5 rebounds and two blocked shots per game as the No. 1-ranked Boilermakers split their two games this past week.
In a dominant 80-60 victory against Penn State at Mackey Arena, Edey posted 18 points, 13 rebounds one block and one steal in 29 minutes of action. He followed the performance by scoring 33 points and adding 18 rebounds in a narrow loss to rival Indiana at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
Edey was 15-of-19 from the field and also had three blocks in the team's 79-74 loss to the Hoosiers, fueling a comeback attempt that was snuffed out in the final minutes after trailing by as many as 16 points in the first half of play.
For the season, Edey is averaging 22.4 points and 13.2 rebounds per game, leading the Big Ten and ranking inside the top five nationally in both categories. He has 19 double-doubles in 23 games, spearheading Purdue to a 22-2 overall record and an 11-2 mark against conference competition.
Edey and the Boilermakers will be back in action at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, Feb. 9, for a home matchup against Iowa. The team closes the week with a road game against Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 12, in Evanston, Ill.
