PORT ORCHARD – One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash at the Mitchell Avenue-Plisko Lane intersection late Sunday night.

Port Orchard police were called to the intersection just before midnight and found a single vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole, the department said in a press release. The passenger had been thrown from the vehicle and was found dead a short distance away, "apparently due to the injuries sustained in the collision."

The driver, who the department said was suspected of driving under the influence, was at the scene and was taken to an area hospital for medical evaluation. Port Orchard Police Chief Matt Brown said the driver had suffered significant injuries.

Anyone with information about the crash may contact the department by calling 911 or emailing police@portorchardwa.gov.
