Fort Donelson To Remove Hazardous Trees

fort-d

Dover, TN – During the coming weeks, trees identified as potential hazards due to poor health or stability will be removed from areas of Fort Donelson National Battlefield.

Of the fourteen trees identified for removal, most are along roadways, earthworks, artillery, or other tourist-heavy areas, and prioritized based on condition. Trees are assessed  throughout the year, with any considered of immediate danger or concern removed upon determination.

Fort Donelson will provide notice via media when short-term road closures are expected. Public areas temporarily closed for removal of a tree will reopen once it is verified that the tree is fully down and the road, trail, or area is again safe for public access.

According to Fort Donelson Chief Ranger Bill Fields, “We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience when areas may need to be briefly closed for the safe tree removal. The goal is to improve visitor safety and protection of resources and doing so in a  manner that minimizes inconvenience on a visitor’s experience.”
