Big 12 Football: Where Texas lands in Athlon Sports' early power rankings for 2023

Winter conditioning workouts are underway for college football teams across the country and many are starting to look ahead to the upcoming season.

Athlon Sports was one of the first media sites to do so, officially releasing their early Big 12 power rankings for 2023 last week. While these could certainly change over the coming months, it’s our first glance at power rankings that include the four new additions to the conference.

TCU is surprisingly not the favorite to win the Big 12 title this upcoming season. Although the Horned Frogs participated in the national championship game just a month ago, Athlon Sports feels Sonny Dykes will have a tough offseason ahead after losing Garrett Riley and several key players.

Kansas and Texas Tech are expected to continue their upward trajectory, while Texas secures the top spot in these early power rankings. Here’s a look at where each of the 14 teams land in Athlon Sports’ rankings.
