Pedestrian injured in Broughton Street crash

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Savannah Police Department (SPD) is investigating a pedestrian-involved crash that injured a construction worker Monday.

According to SPD, a 71-year-old driver was attempting to parallel park his car when he hit the gas, sending the vehicle onto the sidewalk.

The driver continued down the sidewalk, hit a tree and several bikes, then entered a construction zone on Broughton Street near Barnard Street.

Aguilar Lopez, 39, was struck in the construction zone by the vehicle. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, SPD said.

Police closed down the area between Barnard and Whitaker at 2:30 p.m. for some time.

The crash remains under investigation by the department’s Traffic Investigation Unit.

No charges have been filed at this time.
