CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Garfield Heights man has been arrested involving a slaying on the city’s West Side on Wednesday, police said.

Mycah L. Smith, 23, was charged with aggravated murder in Cleveland Municipal Court. His bond was set at $1 million. Smith is accused of fatally shooting Anthony Castrero, 44, of Cleveland in the thigh on Wednesday, police said.

The shooting took place about 11:55 a.m. in front of the Rite Shop Food Mart at 3022 West 25th St. Officers and paramedics administered first aid to Castrero before they transported to him to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Castrero died on Friday, police said.

After police officers interviewed several witnesses and obtained surveillance videos of the incident, they discovered Smith and Castrero got into an argument before Smith punched Castrero in the face and shot him, police said.

Smith’s next court date is next Monday, according to court records. Smith is on probation after being convicted in November of weapons charges.
