Report: Teams Have Requested to Interview Vance Joseph

The Arizona Cardinals are still unsure of their current predicament at head coach, which has led them to a cloudy future in regards to their coaching staff.

The Arizona Cardinals have yet to decide on their head coach of the future, and that's impacted the team a few different ways.

Team owner Michael Bidwill waited until the day after Arizona's season concluded to fire Kliff Kingsbury, a move that could have been done weeks prior given the state of the team.

Bidwill also said he wanted to wait until he had a new general manager in place to fill the shoes of Steve Keim before moving on to their head coach. Monti Ossenfort stepped in and now we're three weeks removed from his official arrival.

The Cardinals have taken their time in their pursuit for a new coach, and in the process have seen a few different valuable names come and go. Sean Payton was all but a dream, Frank Reich was eventually hired by the Panthers, Dan Quinn told the Broncos and Cardinals to kick rocks and DeMeco Ryans canceled his interview with Arizona before eventually accepting the job in Houston.

Yet the hold up in the desert hasn't only impacted outside candidates, as current members of the coaching staff are stuck in limbo until a new face is brought in and decides who will stay/go.

That goes for defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who signed an extension last offseason and was a viable name for Arizona's vacancy before recent reports revealed he had been told he was out of the running.

Other teams have reportedly requested to interview Joseph for their open DC spots, but since he's still under contract with the Cardinals and the move would be lateral, Arizona isn't obligated to say no.

Whoever the new head coach is could decide to keep Joseph on staff, though new regimes normally come with a cleaning of house on the coaching staff.

The Broncos entered similar territory with Ejiro Evero this offseason, a DC who sought HC opportunities but ultimately wasn't able to land any. A handful of teams (Vikings, Panthers) wanted to interview him so the Broncos and Evero cut ties to allow him to pursue other opportunities.

Will we see the same here with Joseph? Would he even want to remain on staff in Arizona? Time will tell on both ends, yet Joseph finds himself in coaching purgatory until something happens.
