SAN ANTONIO – One person managed to avoid serious injury after a fire damaged a home on the city’s West Side early Monday morning, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
The fire was called in just after 11 a.m. at a home in the 200 block of Kirk Place, not far from South Brazos Street, Nogalitos Street and Highway 90.

Firefighters said when they arrived, they found smoke coming from the back of the home. Firefighters with hoses made entry inside and quickly extinguished the fire.
“We had a very quick knockdown, an easy, quick knockdown of this fire. So right now we’re just checking for extension, cause we got wood windows and wood siding that we’re looking at,” a battalion chief with the San Antonio Fire Department said.
Fire officials say they went into the attic and found smoke, but not an exact cause. One man was inside the home at the time of the fire, but made it safely out. He was not hurt.
“We’ve got a little bit of damage in the attic, mainly on the Delta side, the side where we got a window and the electrical box. We’re not sure if that’s where it started, but we’re having an investigation,” the battalion chief said.
An SAFD fire investigation team is looking into what started the fire.
According to the San Antonio Fire Department website, as many as 14 fire units originally answered the call.
No injuries to firefighters were reported.
