Last week, legendary quarterback Tom Brady officially announced his retirement from the NFL last week, prompting all sorts of tributes from several people all across the league with some sharing stories about his life on and off the field . It’s also led to some speculation as to why exactly Brady is retiring, and Brady’s father has the answer.
In an interview with Boston.com, Tom Brady Sr. revealed that his son had a “rough six months on his personal life,” which contributed to the decision. But more importantly, Brady also told him he was “getting tired of getting hit.”
“This has been a really rough six months on his personal life, his family life, and on his football life,” Brady Sr. said, via Boston.com. “He once said this, he said, ‘I’m getting tired of getting hit.’ Having played 23 years and he holds the ignominious record of most sacks against in the NFL . . . and there must be another two or three thousand knockdowns. At 45 years of age, you say, ‘Hey, do I want to get hit one more time?’ The answer’s really nah, I really don’t want to unless everything’s flipping. Unfortunately, it wasn’t clicking this year and I think it was a foregone conclusion.”
Brady retires with several NFL records, but one he probably won’t be proud of is the record for the most sacks taken throughout his career.
