BACK TO YOU. THANKS, BILL. WELL, FROM BAGELS TO HOT COFFEE TABLE, GRACE IS SERVING UP FOOD AT A WHOLE NEW TIME. THE RESTAURANT IS KNOWN FOR KEEPING PRICES OFF ITS MENUS IN EXCHANGE FOR DONATIONS IS NOW EXPANDING ITS COMMUNITY SERVICES. KETV NEWSWATCH 7. JONAH GILMORE WAS THERE AS THE FIRST BREAKFASTS WERE SERVED FOR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 12 YEARS. THE STAFF AT TABLE GRACE CAFE IS WORKING BEFORE THE SUN COMES UP. GOOD MORNING, DONNA. WASHINGTON IS ITS FIRST CUSTOMER FOR THEIR NEW BREAKFAST SERVICE. SHE SAYS OF EXPANSION IS NEEDED SINCE THERE AREN’T MANY BREAKFAST OPTIONS IN THE AREA. IT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET OUT AND FIND SOMEPLACE NEW TO GO. CLOSE BY HOME. SO I’LL BE BACK. THE NONPROFIT DECIDED TO EXPAND AFTER RECEIVING A GRANT FROM THE EMANUEL VISION FOUNDATION. NOW PEOPLE CAN GET BAGELS, BREAKFAST SANDWICHES AND SPECIALTY COFFEE THROUGH THE MEALS SHARED AND THE PRAYERS AND AND THE COMMUNITY AND MUSIC AND THINGS. WE’RE ABLE TO OFFER HERE. WE’RE ABLE TO WIDEN THAT CIRCLE JUST LITTLE BY LITTLE. ONE MEAL AT A TIME. TABLE. GRACE CAFE OFFERS A UNIQUE CONCEPT. IT’S DONATION BASED MEANING YOU PAY WHAT YOU CAN, AND IF YOU CAN’T AFFORD THE FOOD, YOU CAN VOLUNTEER SERVICES. WE’VE HAD PEOPLE OVER THE YEARS SAY, YOU KNOW, THE KIND OF DIGNITY THAT WE’RE GREETED WITH HERE AT TABLE GRACE CAFE IS SO DIFFERENT THAN OTHER PLACES THAT WE ARE RECEIVING MEALS BECAUSE THEY REALLY FEEL LIKE THEY ARE GIVEN THAT OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE SOMETHING OF THEMSELVES. IT’S A GOOD IDEA FOR SOME OF THE HOMELESS TO COME IN, GET OUT OF THE COLD, AND VOLUNTEER INHERENTLY AND MIGHT INSTILL SOMETHING IN THEM. EDDIE BASIL SAYS HE’S THANKFUL FOR THE CAFE AND THEIR MISSION. SOMETHING WASHINGTON BELIEVES IS TRULY NEEDED IN OUR COMMUNITY. I THINK THERE’S ALSO BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE CAN’T AFFORD FOOD AND THEY’LL PASS BY AND WISH THEY COULD COME AND EAT. Table Grace Cafe is now expanding its hours and including breakfast on its daily menu.For the first time in 12 years, the staff at Table Grace Cafe is working before the sun comes up.Donna Washington is Table Grace's first customer for their new breakfast service. She said the expansion is needed since there aren't many breakfast options in the area."It was an opportunity to get out, find someplace new to go. It's close by home, so I'll be back," Washington said.The nonprofit decided to expand after receiving a grant from the Immanuel Vision Foundation.Table Grace CEO Simone Weber said now people can get bagels, breakfast sandwiches and specialty coffee."Through the meals shared and the community and music and the things we're able to offer here, we're able to widen that circle little by little, one meal at a time," Weber said.Table Grace Cafe offers a unique concept. It's donation-based, meaning you pay what you can. If you can't afford the food, you can volunteer your services."We've had people over the years say, you know, the kind of dignity that we're greeted with here at Table Grace Cafe is so different than other places we are receiving meals because they really feel like they are given that opportunity to give something of themselves," Weber said.Eddie Basile said he's thankful for the cafe and its mission."It's a good idea for some of the homeless to get out of the cold and volunteer in here and it might instill something in them," Basile said.Their mission is something Washington believes is truly needed in our community."I think that's awesome because a lot of people can't afford food, and they'll pass by and wish they can come in and eat. Now they know they can come in, do a little something and eat," Washington said.Table Grace is located near 16th and Farnam streets and is open from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. most days.
